Tim and Aubrey Dorsch - Reaching College Students in St. Louis
Aubrey graduated from Webster University with a major in regional theater. I (Tim) graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with majors in art and business. While we were college students in St. Louis, we realized students make decisions that will affect the rest of their lives. We graduated in 2001 and joined the staff of Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ), and we now help give leadership to the ministry in the St. Louis area. Right now is an important time in the history of the U.S. and the world. Universities have an enormous influence on American and world culture. It is essential for us to find help to continue influencing the university and the world.
The college campus is the training ground for tomorrow's leaders. Virtually every future leader of our society will, at some point, spend several years at college. Whether they’ll be doctors, lawyers, engineers, or entrepreneurs, our desire is to see students impact their families, workplaces, churches, and communities with Jesus Christ being the central driving force in their life and, consequently, changing the world.
The 249,000 college students in our area who will influence our culture often have no personal connection to a credible explanation to who Jesus is. We are on their campuses giving these students a real opportunity to know Jesus. Since 2001, we have been on staff with Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ) sharing the love of Christ, mentoring students, and launching and nurturing transformational communities at colleges in St. Louis. I recently completed my Masters of Divinity, which is further equipping me to minister wisely and effectively. As part of my degree, I was asked to summarize my calling: “God has called me to lead the Cru ministry in St. Louis—from which I can foster a Christ-centered ministry environment, shepherd young campus missionaries, and fan the flame for personal disciple making on St. Louis college students’ own turf, college campuses.” We use our Cru ministry time to shepherd the 25 Cru staff in St. Louis, give overall leadership to the 20+ on-campus ministries in the area, oversee the ministries’ logistics and operations, and strategically minister to specific students on campus.
In summary, we spend our days leading Christian students and staff in evangelism and discipleship efforts and pointing non-Christians to Jesus Christ. But we can’t do it alone. We also need people like you to partner with us by praying and giving financially to this vital work. As a team, we can help find lost students and connect them to Jesus!
We have five wonderful sons! Caleb Joshua was born in July 2005, Charles (Charlie) Nehemiah was born in February 2007, Eli Nazareth was born in December 2008, Ezra Matthias was born in May 2011, and Ezekiel (Zeke) Atticus was born in October 2012.
When Dr. Bill and Vonette Bright began Campus Crusade for Christ in 1951, it was on a college campus...UCLA. Because of the energy and commitment of college students to make a difference in their world, Dr. Bright would say, "Reach the campus today and you reach the world tomorrow."
Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ) is now the largest evangelical organization in the United States (according to a USA Today report). Campus Crusade for Christ is active in 190 countries and employs over 27,000 full-time staff.
"There's nothing like Campus Crusade for Christ in the history of the Christian world." - Dr. Billy Graham
Partnering With Us
Since joining Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ), Aubrey and I have seen God provide for all of our needs through the consistent financial support of a team of ministry partners. Because there are no central funds for paying salaries, this team has provided the only income for our family and ministry.
Due to the expanding needs of our growing family we are looking for additional partners to join with us in reaching students with the gospel. Because we believe that God has called us to this we are confident that He will continue to provide for us. We are praying that God would raise up a number of families and individuals to support our ministry. We are dependent on these new partners in order to continue to serve effectively. One-time or special gifts are also very helpful and are appreciated.
Perhaps God is moving in your heart to invest in our work with college students. If so, we would be grateful! If you have any questions, please call or email us.
